Meet the Trainer
Hi! I’m Barbara, founder and head trainer at K9 SOL
My journey with dogs began in childhood, sharing my playpen with my family’s Labrador, and has since evolved into a lifelong passion. Over the years, I have worked with Labrador Retrievers, Collies, and my beloved German Shepherds, competing in dog sports and participating in pet therapy programs.
Like many trainers, I had a dog who challenged all traditional training methods. That experience led me to seek further education and ultimately transition from teaching to professional dog training. In 2007, I completed the Master Trainer’s Course at the National K-9 School for Dog Trainers, and I have continued expanding my knowledge ever since.
With over 40 years of experience and thousands of dogs trained, I am still learning, growing, and dedicated to helping dogs and their owners achieve success. Whether you need basic obedience, behavior solutions, or service dog training. I’m committed to providing affordable dog training in Tallahassee and here to guide you every step of the way.

- Lissette, Finn’s owner
“Barbara and K-9 SOL are truly remarkable. She helped us navigate the complexities of owning and training a Service Dog. During a challenging time when my daughter was diagnosed with multiple health issues, Barbara played a crucial role in training Finn to excel as a Mobility Service Dog. When we felt overwhelmed supporting our daughter, her valuable insights were instrumental in ensuring her success in college. Her guidance and expertise have been and continue to be invaluable.”

- Robin, Kai and Lando’s owner
"We took our two puppies through Barbara’s Puppy PreSchool and then rolled into private training. We have had puppies before, but the preschool sessions helped us get a handle on the specific breed, and how to communicate so we start out right with these new family members. We also learned simple tips we were able to immediately implement. The kids had fun helping the puppies navigate the the agility activities onsite. In our training classes we have been able to focus on leash walking and recall where we have already seen improvement. "

Shannon, Emma's owner
"Barb's method of training has been life changing for our anxious Rottweiler, Emma. Her transformation has been incredible--she is calmer, more confident, and so much happier. Emma was not able to be around many people due to anxiety, and Barb was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and understanding of what Emma needed. We saw dramatic changes in how Emma responds too previously stressful situations. Not only did the sessions help and train Emma, they trained us to be better caretakers. We're beyond grateful and can't recommend her enough. "

Frequently asked questions
What training methods do you use at K9SOL?
At K9SOL, I use science-based, balanced training methods tailored to each dog’s needs. My approach focuses on communication, structure, and positive reinforcement while addressing unwanted behaviors in a way that is fair and effective.
What age should I start training my puppy?
It’s never too early to start! Puppies can begin training as early as 8 weeks old with my Puppy Pre-School program, which focuses on socialization, basic commands, and confidence-building to set a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Do you offer private lessons or group classes?
I offer both! Private lessons are great for personalized training, while group classes provide socialization and structured learning in a controlled environment. I’ll help you choose the best option based on your goals.
Can you help with problem behaviors like aggression or anxiety?
Yes! I specialize in behavior modification for issues like fear, anxiety, leash reactivity, and aggression. Every dog is different, so we assess each case individually and create a customized training plan.
How long does it take to see results?
Training progress depends on factors like consistency, the dog’s temperament, and the goals you’re working toward. Many owners see noticeable improvements within the first few sessions, while more advanced training may take several weeks.
